Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), part of the UN Secretariat's reform, support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs under empowered Resident Coordinators. This role, located in Georgetown, Guyana, contributes to strategic partnerships for SDG achievement, reporting to the RCO Team Leader.
Job Purpose
The Partnerships Officer provides strategic advice and support to the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team (UNCT) to foster partnerships for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) achievement. This involves developing and implementing UN Partnership Strategies aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, coordinating with UN entities, and engaging external stakeholders like the private sector and civil society. The role also supports resource mobilization initiatives, manages pooled funds, and promotes financing for development options. Additionally, the officer contributes to knowledge management and capacity development related to partnerships and resource mobilization within the UN system at the country level.
Responsibilities
The Partnerships Officer is responsible for providing substantive support for strategic planning and coordination of UNCT strategic partnerships with civil society, the private sector, and other entities for SDG achievement. This includes advising on partnership strategies, supporting working groups, liaising with UN entities, and serving as a key contact for external stakeholders. The role involves building interfaces with development partners, identifying partnership risks and opportunities, and conducting due diligence. The officer also participates in joint partnership and resource mobilization initiatives, supports the management of pooled funds, and advises on corporate policies for resource management. Furthermore, the position promotes partnerships to support SDG financing, prepares briefing papers, contributes to advocacy, and designs innovative proposals. Finally, the officer contributes to knowledge management and capacity development by promoting collaboration, researching best practices, and supporting data analysis and reporting.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in strategic partnership support, project/programme management, and resource mobilization within development cooperation is required. Experience in designing and implementing partnerships, developing resource mobilization strategies, preparing proposals, and building partnerships across government, private sector, and civil society is essential. Experience in inclusion strategies, knowledge management, UN interagency coordination, SDG financing, and data analytics is desirable.
