Job Purpose
The Associate Communications Officer supports the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Male, Maldives, by contributing to the implementation of communication strategies that raise awareness, drive engagement, and build support for UN priorities and the SDGs. This role involves gathering media insights, drafting compelling narratives and messages, developing content for various platforms, and fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including media and community representatives. The officer will also assist in organizing events, preparing reports, and ensuring effective communication across diverse channels to advance the UN's mission and objectives in the country.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing traditional, social, and digital media to inform communication strategies and identify reputational risks. The role involves contributing to the development and implementation of communication strategies and campaigns to raise awareness and engage target audiences. This includes drafting narratives, messages, press releases, and other communication products. The officer will also be involved in media mapping, building relationships with media outlets, planning events, and potentially acting as a spokesperson. Additionally, responsibilities encompass developing strategic communication partnerships, creating content for various platforms (including radio and podcasts), assisting with reporting, and staying updated on communication trends and technologies. Maintaining confidentiality and analyzing communication effectiveness are also crucial duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in developing and implementing communication strategies is required. Demonstrated knowledge of strategic communication principles and practices is essential. Experience in drafting messages for diverse audiences, developing creative content, and understanding digital media platforms is desirable. Skills in data collection and analysis, along with experience in data analytics, are also beneficial.
