Trade Data Analyst - International Consultant

Organizational Context

The International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the UN and WTO, assists developing countries in leveraging trade opportunities for sustainable and inclusive development. The Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) section, within ITC's Division of Market Development, focuses on market research and trade competitiveness assessment. This role sits within the TMI section.

Job Purpose

This role supports the Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) section by preparing and analyzing trade, export potential, and trade policy datasets. The consultant will assist in collecting, cleaning, evaluating, and validating statistical data to compute export potential and other trade indicators. Key contributions include updating and quality-assuring databases for the Export Potential Map tool, computing indicators, and preparing reproducible datasets and methodological notes. The role also involves creating visualizations for reports and presentations, supporting training activities, and ensuring a comprehensive handover of all analytical materials and documentation, contributing to ITC's mission of promoting trade for development.

Responsibilities

The International Consultant will support the Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) section in the preparation and analysis of trade, export potential, and trade policy datasets. Key duties include assisting in the collection, evaluation, analysis, and dissemination of statistical data to compute export potential and related trade indicators. The consultant will also help develop, implement, and manage statistical databases for the Export Potential Map web tools. Responsibilities extend to preparing graphs and tables for visualizing trade data in reports, assisting with the preparation and delivery of trainings, and performing other assigned duties. A critical aspect involves ensuring the accuracy and quality of data, maintaining reproducible analytical processes, and submitting a final handover package with all relevant documentation.

Work Experience

A minimum of six months of experience in quantitative data analysis, statistical programming, or data management is required. Previous work experience specifically in trade data analysis is considered an asset. Experience with statistical software such as R, Python, Stata, or SAS is also required.
