Organizational Context
The International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the WTO and UN, supports SME internationalization and sustainable development through trade. This National Technical Expert role is part of the EU-funded BOOST project in Lao PDR, aimed at increasing trade and investment between Lao PDR and the EU, with a focus on sustainability standards. The position is based in Vientiane, within the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Job Purpose
The National Technical Expert will support the management and implementation of the Lao PDR BOOST project, focusing on increasing trade and investment between Lao PDR and the EU. This involves aligning production with EU environmental and sustainability standards, promoting eco-friendly supply chains, and ensuring due diligence compliance. The role contributes to the project's objective of fostering private-sector-led growth and strengthening Lao PDR's economic partnership with the EU, ultimately supporting sustainable and inclusive growth in the country. The expert will provide technical assistance and capacity building to businesses and Business-Support Organisations (BSOs).
Responsibilities
The National Technical Expert will serve as a technical resource for project Outputs 1 and 2, providing support to Business-Support Organisations (BSOs) and companies. This includes assisting in the rollout of activities, defining content with ITC experts, identifying partners, organizing meetings, and presenting project objectives. The role involves coaching, training, and providing advisory support to beneficiaries, ensuring needs-driven interventions and skills transfer. The expert will contribute to needs assessments, develop training materials, and stay updated on relevant developments in Lao PDR. Additionally, the role requires coordinating with ITC HQ, supporting project implementation, monitoring activities, collecting evidence, and contributing to progress reports. The expert will also manage partner and client relationships, acting as a focal point for communication and maintaining records of interactions.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in agribusiness-related fields is required. Experience within agribusiness, business management, result-based project management, monitoring, evaluation, or administration is necessary. Experience working in Lao PDR is mandatory. Experience with the private sector, Business-Support Organisations, or companies in Lao PDR, as well as experience in trade-related technical assistance and implementing EU projects, are desirable.
