Back-end Developer (Python) - eUNRWA (HQA-LOCAL)

Organizational Context

The UN Secretariat, specifically UNRWA's Information Management - Headquarters Amman, seeks a Back-end Developer. This role is part of the Digital Impact, Technology and Innovation Department (DITID) and digital workspace initiative. The position is based in Amman, with potential for remote consultancy within UNRWA fields of operations, and is for local candidates.

Job Purpose

The Back-end Developer will be responsible for the day-to-day development activities within the application development team. This includes the design, testing, development, and deployment of eUNRWA solutions, web applications, and interfaces with internal and external systems. The role contributes to providing high-performance, optimized, and efficient software solutions that align with business processes and defined standards, ensuring the successful implementation of digital initiatives within UNRWA. The incumbent will also coordinate with other DITID units to deliver technical solutions.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain web applications using Python/Django for the back end and React for the front end. Design and implement RESTful APIs, integrating with third-party services. Ensure application security, performance, and scalability across environments. Collaborate with UI/UX designers on user-centric solutions. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, adhering to best practices. Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers. Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems. Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and user manuals. Participate in agile ceremonies and provide regular progress updates.

Work Experience

A minimum of 6 years of experience in full-stack development is required. Proven experience with Python, Django, and React is essential. Experience with RESTful API design and integration, relational databases, and Docker containers is also necessary.
