The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) Office of Investment Management (OIM) manages a global investment portfolio exceeding $100 billion, with approximately 85% actively managed in-house across diverse asset classes. This role is within the Private Markets, Private Equity Team, based in New York, reporting to the Senior Investment Officer.
Job Purpose
This Investment Officer role supports the Senior Investment Officer in managing and investing the UNJSPF's assets within private equity and real assets markets. The purpose is to balance long-term strategic goals with short-term performance objectives to outperform return benchmarks, while adhering to risk control parameters and integrating Principles of Responsible Investments. The role involves conducting thorough investment research, analyzing financial statements, evaluating external manager performance, and contributing to specific investment recommendations that align with the Fund’s criteria for safety, profitability, liquidity, and convertibility. The incumbent will also assist in preparing reports for senior management and governing bodies, ensuring timely and accurate information for investment decisions and oversight.
Responsibilities
The Investment Officer will assist the Senior Investment Officer in managing and investing the Fund's assets in private equity and real assets markets. Key duties include balancing strategic goals with performance objectives, monitoring portfolio holdings, and conducting security analysis. The role requires compliance with risk control parameters and integration of Responsible Investment Principles. The incumbent will perform periodic portfolio reviews and analysis using risk and analytical tools. Additionally, the role involves conducting in-depth investment research, including fundamental analysis of financial statements and market news, reviewing external research, and attending industry conferences. The Investment Officer will evaluate the quality of recommendations from research providers and external managers, and contribute to specific investment recommendations by ensuring adherence to the Fund’s criteria (safety, profitability, liquidity, convertibility) and aligning with investment objectives and risk tolerance. Reporting assistance to senior management and governing bodies is also a key responsibility.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience is required in quantitative and qualitative investment analysis, portfolio management, portfolio analytics, and legal negotiations. Experience in private equity or private credit investment firms, institutional investor organizations (pension funds, endowments, foundations), or investment banking/consulting firms is desirable.
