Organizational Context
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), a regional commission of the United Nations, contributes to the economic and social development of the region. Established in 1948, its mission includes policy design, monitoring, evaluation, and providing advisory services and training to governments. This role is situated within the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary, assigned to the Statistics Division.
Job Purpose
The Website Assistant serves as a key support role within the Statistics Division of ECLAC. This position is responsible for processing user requests, providing basic technical support for hardware and software systems, and assisting in the installation and maintenance of application systems. The role contributes to the development and upkeep of customized application software, including web-based architectures and content management systems. Additionally, the Website Assistant supports the creation of technical documentation, training materials, and conducts research on new web technologies to enhance the division's digital platforms and information sharing capabilities.
Responsibilities
Serve as the focal point for user requests, processing them efficiently. Provide basic technical support for relevant hardware and software systems. Install application systems, software, and hardware according to specifications. Assist in the planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of customized application software systems, working with senior IT staff. Support the creation and maintenance of application software within Lotus Notes, Microsoft Access, and web-based architectures, including content management systems and web publishing platforms. Prepare technical and user documentation and training materials. Provide support on software development matters, including security, data integrity, and recovery for web platforms. Conduct research on new web technologies, collaborative tools, and digital platforms, and assist in testing new products. Assist with data collection, analysis, and preparation of presentations and reports. Update information materials such as web pages and brochures.
Work Experience
Requires at least five years of experience in information systems analysis, programming, systems administration, software development, or technical writing. Three years of experience is sufficient with a first-level university degree. Experience in web design, development, website production, and front-end/usability design is mandatory. Experience in systems administration, DevOps, and infrastructure automation is also required. Experience with responsive web designs, interactive web features, and Content Management Systems (CMS) is desirable.
