The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Resident Coordinator System (RCO) in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, seeks a Communications Intern. This role supports the UN Country Team (UNCG) mandate by contributing to digital communications and advocacy efforts. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Communications and Advocacy Officer.

Job Purpose

The Communications Intern will support the UN Country Team (UNCG) and the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in Port of Spain by producing engaging multimedia content and assisting with digital communications strategies. The role involves creating short-form videos and graphic designs for social media and the UN website, adapting content to communicate development themes effectively, and supporting advocacy initiatives. The intern will also contribute to content planning, basic performance tracking, and participate in creative brainstorming sessions, ultimately enhancing the UN's visibility and impact in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean region.

Responsibilities

The intern will be responsible for mobile video production and editing, including filming and producing polished short-form video content for social media and the UN website, adhering to UNCG editorial and branding guidelines. This includes assisting with video shoots and managing video assets. Additionally, the intern will design visually compelling social media graphics, infographics, and other digital assets using Canva, adapting templates and creating new designs to communicate development themes. Responsibilities also include assisting with content strategy by drafting social media copy, contributing to content calendars, tracking basic content metrics, and participating in UNCG working sessions to generate creative ideas for campaigns and storytelling.

Work Experience

Professional work experience is not required. However, demonstrated academic or practical exposure to communications, media, graphic design, or digital media is necessary. Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content best practices is also required. Experience with video editing software and graphic design tools like Canva is essential.

Skills

Proficiency in filming and editing short-form video content using mobile devices. Proficiency in Canva for graphic design. Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter) and digital content best practices. Good working knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams. Creativity, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks, strong interpersonal skills, and collaborative spirit.
