Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) advises and assists the Secretary-General on disarmament and related security matters, implementing mandates from UN organs. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to UNODA's mission, with 75% of duties supporting the Front Office and 25% supporting the Regional Disarmament, Information and Outreach Branch.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience within the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA). The intern will support the Front Office and the Regional Disarmament, Information and Outreach Branch by developing content for the office's website and social media, conducting research, assisting in drafting official documents and web content, and supporting conferences and meetings. This role contributes to UNODA's efforts in disarmament, information dissemination, and outreach, offering valuable exposure to international affairs and UN operations.
Responsibilities
Develop content for UNODA's website and social media channels, focusing on disarmament stories. Conduct document, media, and internet research to support office activities. Assist in drafting and preparing official documents, summaries, talking points, speeches, remarks, and web content. Provide support during conferences and meetings, including the First Committee. Help develop media products for web and social networking platforms. Undertake other duties as required to support the Front Office and the Regional Disarmament, Information and Outreach Branch.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be students in the final year of a bachelor's degree program or higher, or have completed such a program. A field of study relevant to disarmament or international affairs is necessary. Previous internship experience within the UN Common System is limited to six months.
Skills
Content development, social media management, research (document, media, internet), drafting official documents, meeting support, media product development, fluency in English, knowledge of an additional UN language (advantageous).
