Organizational Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The Multilateral Fund (MLF) for the Montreal Protocol, managed by UNEP and located in Montreal, supports developing countries in phasing out ozone-depleting substances and hydrofluorocarbons. This internship is situated within the UNEP/MLF Secretariat in Montreal.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to provide support to the Multilateral Fund Secretariat in Montreal. The intern will assist in research and data compilation related to projects under the Montreal Protocol, specifically focusing on servicing sectors and non-investment components. Key activities include designing tools for information management, analyzing data on refrigeration servicing activities, regulatory frameworks, and relevant policies. The role contributes to the MLF's objective of assisting developing countries in meeting their obligations under the Montreal Protocol, thereby supporting global environmental protection efforts.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist in designing a tool for populating and updating information on servicing sectors and non-investment project components. Responsibilities include compiling and analyzing data from projects concerning refrigeration servicing activities, such as training programs, certification levels, local institutes, sector categories, regulations, and policies. The intern will also research regulatory frameworks for controlled substances, equipment, and servicing practices, including licensing and record-keeping. Additionally, the role involves investigating policies related to the market control of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, focusing on refrigerants and energy efficiency. Other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor are also part of the responsibilities.

No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Desirable experience includes research, data compilation, policy analysis, comparative assessments, and report preparation.
