Organizational Context
The Policy and Best Practices Service (PBPS) within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) focuses on enhancing peacekeeping operations through best practices and guidance. Located in the Child Protection Team, this role supports both DPO and DOS, contributing to the development and dissemination of peacekeeping policy and doctrine, and coordinating strategic partnerships.
Job Purpose
The Coordination Officer (Team Leader) is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating child protection programs within peacekeeping operations. This involves monitoring and analyzing project progress, identifying and resolving issues, and liaising with relevant parties to ensure effective follow-up actions. The role includes planning and facilitating workshops, coordinating policy development, conducting research, and preparing various written outputs such as background papers and reports. Additionally, the officer provides substantive support for meetings and conferences, initiates outreach activities, conducts training, and leads complex field missions. A key aspect is coordinating budget-related activities and utilizing data visualization for informed decision-making and reporting.
Responsibilities
Develops, implements, and evaluates child protection programs in peacekeeping operations, monitoring project progress and addressing issues. Plans and facilitates workshops, developing action plans for change management. Conducts research and presents information from diverse sources. Coordinates policy development, including analysis of trends and research activities. Designs and utilizes data collection tools, analyzing responses to identify problems. Prepares written outputs like background papers, reports, and publications. Provides substantive support for meetings and conferences, including agenda setting and document preparation. Initiates outreach activities, conducts training workshops, and delivers presentations. Leads and participates in complex field missions, guiding consultants and drafting mission summaries. Coordinates budget funding activities, preparing relevant financial and programmatic reports. Collects and analyzes data for trend identification, using visualization methods for planning and decision-making.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in project/program management, specifically in child protection, is required. Experience in conflict/post-conflict settings, designing and delivering child protection training, and supporting international peacekeeping operations is also necessary. Experience in project management, donor relations, and resource mobilization within peacekeeping or child protection organizations is essential.
