The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The Multilateral Fund (MLF) for the Montreal Protocol, administered by UNEP, supports developing countries in phasing out ozone-depleting substances and high global warming hydrofluorocarbons. This internship is based at the MLF Secretariat in Montreal, Canada.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Multilateral Fund Secretariat in its mission to protect the ozone layer and mitigate climate change. The intern will contribute to research and analysis related to refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heat pump (RACHP) technologies. This includes mapping technologies, assessing alternative refrigerants, evaluating intellectual property rights, and summarizing findings from global reports. The role also involves analyzing training capacities and digital tools for the RACHP sector in developing countries, contributing to the development of a structured information portal.
Responsibilities
The intern will map refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heat pump (RACHP) technologies, including their use of controlled substances and alternative refrigerants, along with indicative costs. Responsibilities include collecting and assessing intellectual property rights for alternative technologies and components. The intern will summarize and compare findings from various global and regional RACHP technology reports. Additionally, the role involves analyzing mobile air conditioning (MAC) technology, RACHP training institutes in Article 5 countries, and digital tools for training and servicing. The intern will also compile lists of servicing equipment and assist in designing an internal portal for technology information.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Experience in conducting literature reviews, synthesizing technical information, scientific research, and data analysis is desirable.
