Senior Business Intelligence & AI Specialist - HQA (Local)

Organizational Context

The UN Secretariat, specifically UNRWA's Information Management department in Headquarters Amman, seeks a Senior Business Intelligence & AI Specialist. This consultancy role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise BI and AI solutions to enhance data accessibility, reporting, analytics, and decision-making across the organization. The position is based in Amman with remote consultancy options.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide senior technical expertise in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Data Warehousing, and Artificial Intelligence solutions. The specialist will collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture & Business Intelligence (EBI) team to deliver robust enterprise reporting and analytics capabilities. Key contributions include translating business requirements into technical solutions, designing and developing data models, ETL/ELT processes, and advanced Power BI dashboards, including AI-powered analytics and Microsoft Copilot integration. The role ensures data quality, adherence to standards, and knowledge transfer, ultimately improving data-driven decision-making across UNRWA.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include analyzing business requirements and translating them into technical BI and AI solutions. The specialist will design and develop dimensional data warehouse models, analytical/semantic models, and OLAP cubes. Developing, maintaining, and optimizing ETL/ELT processes and data integration solutions is crucial. The role involves designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining Power BI reports, dashboards, KPI scorecards, and AI-powered dashboards, including supporting the adoption of Microsoft Copilot. Ensuring data quality through profiling, validation, and cleansing is essential. Providing technical advice on BI, Power BI, analytics, AI, and data architecture, coordinating with the EBI team on technical design and deployment, and offering technical guidance and knowledge transfer to BI developers are also key duties. Preparing technical documentation is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of six years of relevant professional experience is required. This includes professional experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, or Software Development. Specific experience with Power BI, SQL Server, ETL/ELT development, dimensional modelling, AI-powered analytics, and Microsoft BI technologies is essential.

Skills

Extensive experience with Microsoft Power BI; Extensive experience with SQL Server, SQL development, and database scripting; Strong experience in Data Warehouse design and dimensional modelling; Strong experience in ETL/ELT development and data integration; Strong experience writing DAX and SQL; Experience with Microsoft SSIS and SSAS; Experience implementing AI-powered analytics, Microsoft Copilot, or Generative AI solutions; Experience translating business requirements into analytical solutions; Experience preparing technical documentation; Microsoft Azure and/or Microsoft Fabric experience is desirable.
