Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), specifically the Environment and Development Division, is seeking an intern to support the production of UN meeting reports and knowledge products. This UNPAID, full-time internship can be home-based or located in Bangkok, Thailand, for 4-6 months, reporting to a staff member.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Environment and Development Division in producing high-quality United Nations meeting reports and derived knowledge products. The role involves rigorous quality assurance of meeting transcripts and reports, substantive research on Asia-Pacific environment and development topics, and editorial review against UN standards. The intern will contribute to the verification of intergovernmental meeting records and assist in organizing the meeting-report knowledge base. This position offers a practical learning experience in substantive research, editorial quality assurance, and knowledge management within a UN context, focusing on critical regional development issues.
Responsibilities
Perform quality assurance on meeting transcripts and reports, including proofreading, verifying speaker identifications, and conducting error audits. Conduct substantive research on Asia-Pacific environment and development topics, preparing background notes, case studies, and briefing materials. Support the editorial review of draft reports, ensuring adherence to UN editorial and house style. Validate structured data extractions from reports, such as country requests and thematic tags. Assist in organizing and documenting the meeting-report knowledge base and performing related follow-up tasks.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is explicitly required. However, comfort working with spreadsheets (Excel) and structured documents (Word) is necessary, along with basic data literacy. Strong attention to detail, source-checking discipline, and reliability with repetitive verification tasks are essential.
