The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is seeking a Senior Staff Nurse for its Programme Health in Area Office Jerusalem. This role is based in Ramallah and reports to the Hospital Matron or Hospital Director, receiving technical supervision from the Field Nursing Services Officer or Area Nursing Services Officer. Job Purpose
The Senior Staff Nurse serves as the principal nursing officer at the health center, responsible for supervising, directing, and providing technical support to a team of staff nurses, practical nurses, midwives, and non-paramedical personnel. This role ensures the efficient operation of the health center, including the management of electronic medical records, training of staff, and maintenance of medical supplies. The incumbent also plays a crucial role in data collection, reporting of nursing activities, patient follow-up, and home visits. They assist in the overall administration of the health center, manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment, and ensure health services are delivered within the Family Health Team Approach and according to Technical Instructions. The position may also require assuming direct nursing responsibilities when other staff are unavailable and performing specific procedures like IUD insertions.
Responsibilities
The Senior Staff Nurse acts as the primary nursing officer, supervising and technically guiding staff nurses, practical nurses, midwives, and non-paramedical staff, and conducting performance evaluations. They ensure the effective operation of the electronic medical record system, including staff training and system maintenance, and oversee accurate data recording. Responsibilities include supervising data collection, analysis, reporting of nursing activities, patient follow-up, and home visits. The role involves assisting in health center administration, managing and maintaining records for vaccines, medical supplies, equipment, and other inventory. The incumbent directs and participates in activities to ensure health services align with the Family Health Team Approach and Technical Instructions. They may cover for absent staff nurses or midwives and perform specific medical procedures. Additionally, the role includes supervising infection control, triage services, cleanliness, hygiene, and medical waste management, and performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of progressive and relevant work experience as a qualified nurse is required. One year of experience in nursing services at a supervisory level, experience in primary health care provision, and computer proficiency with health applications are desirable.
