The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) within the UN Secretariat is seeking a Legal Intern in New York for a 3 to 6-month duration. Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience within the UN Secretariat's Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED). The intern will support the BMLE Team by assisting in the planning and organization of various events, including meetings, briefings, and seminars. Key contributions include conducting research on terrorism trends, preparing analytical products, drafting country profiles, and creating visual aids for documents and presentations. The role also involves attending meetings, taking notes, and preparing summaries, thereby contributing to the Directorate's overall mission of combating terrorism and supporting Member States in their counter-terrorism endeavors. This position is designed to offer valuable insights into international counter-terrorism policy and practice.
Responsibilities
The Legal Intern will assist in the planning and organization of meetings, briefings, roundtables, seminars, and other CTED events, with a specific focus on the BMLE Team. Responsibilities include preparing documents and arrangements for these events. The intern will also prepare background notes and talking points for meetings and missions. A significant duty involves conducting research to support CTED's analytical products on terrorism trends and developments. This includes researching, drafting, and updating country profiles and background documents for high-level meetings. Additionally, the intern will assist in preparing infographics and visual aids for CTED documents and presentations. The role requires attending meetings and conferences, taking notes, and assisting in the preparation of summaries and reports. Ad-hoc activities as instructed by the team will also be part of the duties.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be students in the final year of a university degree program (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such a program. A field of study relevant to the internship is necessary.
Skills
Research, analytical skills, report writing, meeting support (note-taking, summarization), event planning assistance, infographic and visual aid preparation, strong written and spoken English communication. Proficiency in another UN language is desirable.
