PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT OFFICER (Temporary Job Opening)
Organizational Context
The Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) was established by the UN General Assembly in June 2023. This role, currently based in Geneva, may be subject to relocation to Damascus or another operational site. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Operations Support Section.
Job Purpose
The Programme Management Officer will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of IIMP's programmes and projects. This involves coordinating operational planning, monitoring progress, and analyzing project development. The role includes conducting research, assisting in policy development, and preparing various written outputs. The officer will also provide substantive support for meetings, conduct outreach activities, and manage data analysis for informed decision-making. Additionally, the position involves coordinating budget and funding activities, including procurement plans, to ensure effective programme delivery.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include participating in programme and project development, implementation, and evaluation. This involves coordinating operational planning, monitoring activities, and analyzing project progress. The role requires liaising with relevant parties, identifying issues, and proposing corrective actions. The officer will conduct research, analyze information from diverse sources, and assist in policy development. Responsibilities also encompass designing data collection tools, analyzing survey responses, and preparing various written outputs such as reports and background papers. Providing substantive support for meetings, conducting training, and supporting field missions are also key duties. Furthermore, the role involves coordinating budget and funding activities, including procurement plans, and utilizing data visualization for reporting and decision-making.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in project or programme management is required. Experience in budget proposal preparation and justification for intergovernmental bodies, and in developing/monitoring procurement plans is essential. Experience leading business process improvement initiatives is desirable.
