The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development. The Ecosystems Division focuses on ecosystem-based solutions. This role is within the Biodiversity and Land Branch and supports the Nature for Health (N4H) initiative's scoping phase in Kenya, aiming to reduce health risks through environmental determinants and strengthen One Health approaches.
Job Purpose
This consultancy will lead the systemic approach facilitation for the scoping phase of the Nature for Health Fund in Kenya. The primary goal is to establish a common understanding, vision, and commitment among diverse stakeholders to collaboratively develop a locally relevant and sustainable project. The role will contribute to strengthening the environmental and preventive aspects of One Health, enhancing the understanding of links between human, animal, and ecosystem health, and supporting decision-makers in preventing future pandemics and improving planetary health. The outcome will be a co-developed Implementation Project Document detailing the activity plan and budget for the N4H initiative in Kenya.
Responsibilities
Lead the systemic approach facilitation for the Nature for Health (N4H) Fund's scoping phase in Kenya. Develop a shared understanding of N4H objectives and processes among stakeholders through reviews and discussions. Design and facilitate workshops to assess the One Health situation and co-design the Implementation Phase project document. Manage workshop dynamics, co-develop agendas, and define process scope. Apply practical systems thinking tools and create a safe space for discussions and critical reflection. Facilitate the collaborative building of the N4H partnership in Kenya, including establishing partnership roles and implementation activities. Contribute to the elaboration of the Implementation Project Document, ensuring the integration of system thinking and developing relevant terms of reference for the implementation phase.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of postgraduate work experience in knowledge management, organizational learning, and facilitating partnership building in diverse multi-stakeholder environments is required. Demonstrated experience in facilitation, program management, and developing project documents and actionable plans for sustainable development is essential. Experience using systems thinking tools and approaches in multi-stakeholder settings is required.
