The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs-Department of Peace Operations Shared Structure, seeks an intern in New York. This internship focuses on political affairs within the Middle East region, contributing to the UN's peace and security mandate. The role is based in person at the UN premises.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to provide a valuable learning experience by engaging the intern in critical political affairs functions within the UN Secretariat. The role supports the monitoring and analysis of political, socio-economic, and humanitarian developments in the Middle East. The intern will contribute to research, policy analysis, and the drafting of essential documents for leadership. This position offers exposure to international diplomacy, peace and security issues, and inter-departmental collaboration, fostering a deeper understanding of the UN's operational work and its commitment to global peace.

Responsibilities

The intern will monitor and analyze political, socio-economic, and humanitarian developments in the Middle East region. Key duties include conducting research on policy issues related to peace, security, and development. The intern will assist in drafting notes, background papers, talking points, and speeches for leadership. Responsibilities also involve participating in working groups, meetings, and consultations with UN entities, taking meeting minutes, and providing support for meetings convened by the Middle East Division. Additionally, the intern may support Special Political Missions and UNCTs in non-mission settings within the region, performing other related duties as assigned.
