Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. Its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is based in Rio de Janeiro. UN-Habitat Brazil supports local governments in implementing sustainable urban policies, focusing on resilience and the 2030 Agenda.
Job Purpose
This role supports the implementation of the 'Inclusive and Sustainable Rio' project, co-leading activities in the Mountain Region. The project aims to strengthen urban resilience in Rio de Janeiro State by localizing Sustainable Development Goals and promoting disaster prevention and youth engagement. The Technical Manager will coordinate awareness activities, prepare deliverables, manage work plans, and ensure alignment with UN-Habitat's quality standards and international frameworks like the New Urban Agenda.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technically coordinating urban and climate resilience awareness activities, preparing and reviewing project deliverables, and gathering inputs for work plans and progress reports. The role involves ensuring project implementation according to the work plan, establishing monitoring systems, and mitigating risks. It also requires providing technical support for localizing international agreements, maintaining relationships with local partners, identifying capacity-building needs, and documenting project activities. The Technical Manager will coordinate trainings, workshops, and knowledge products, and attend relevant meetings to enhance the project's presence.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of three years of experience in project coordination, team leadership, technical advisory, or community mobilization related to urban development or disaster risk management in Brazil. Experience with public policies, public administration, sustainability, social and urban development, and stakeholder coordination is also necessary. Experience in climate change and disaster risk reduction is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and web search engines is required. Familiarity with technological tools and online platforms is desirable. Knowledge of project management methodologies is also desirable. Strong communication, teamwork, professionalism, and organizational skills are essential.
