Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordination Office (RCO) in Accra, Ghana, operates under the UN Secretariat's Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO). As part of a global reform, RCOs support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs under empowered UN Resident Coordinators. This role contributes to the UN 2.0 shift, focusing on data, digital innovation, and a mission-driven culture.
Job Purpose
The Partnerships Officer provides strategic advice and support to the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team (UNCT) in Accra, Ghana, to foster partnerships for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This involves developing and implementing a UN Partnership Strategy, engaging with diverse stakeholders including civil society and the private sector, and identifying opportunities for collaboration. The role also supports resource mobilization initiatives, manages pooled funds, and contributes to financing for development strategies aligned with national and UN frameworks. Additionally, the officer promotes knowledge management and capacity development in partnerships and resource mobilization within the UN system at the country level.
Responsibilities
The Partnerships Officer is responsible for providing substantive support for strategic planning and coordination of UNCT partnerships with civil society, the private sector, and other entities to achieve SDGs. This includes advising on and implementing the UN Partnership Strategy, liaising with UN entities, and serving as a key contact for external partners. The role involves supporting resource mobilization initiatives, analyzing funding streams, and contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework's funding strategy. The officer will also promote partnerships for financing development, prepare briefing papers, and contribute to advocacy and dialogues. Furthermore, the position supports knowledge management by promoting collaboration, researching best practices, and analyzing data for reporting and decision-making.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in strategic partnership support, project/programme management, and resource mobilization within development cooperation is required. Experience in developing partnerships across government, private sector, and civil society is essential. Experience in designing and implementing partnerships, resource mobilization strategies, and preparing project proposals is also required. Experience in UN interagency coordination and data analytics is desirable.
