Organizational Context
The International Trade Centre (ITC) is implementing the "One Trade Africa" (OTA) programme to empower African MSMEs under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Ghana, as host of the AfCFTA Secretariat, is a priority country for OTA interventions. This internship supports OTA programme implementation in Ghana, aligning with continental processes and national priorities.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the implementation of the "One Trade Africa" (OTA) programme within the International Trade Centre's Office for Africa, with a specific focus on Ghana's strategic role as an AfCFTA implementation hub. The intern will work closely with the ITC AfCFTA Liaison Advisor in Accra, contributing to the delivery of OTA activities and engagement with the AfCFTA Secretariat. The role is designed to strengthen ITC's in-country presence and responsiveness to AfCFTA-related opportunities, ultimately supporting African MSMEs, particularly those led by women and youth, to compete and trade across the continent. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in regional integration, trade policy, and MSME development within a dynamic continental framework.
Responsibilities
The intern will provide crucial support to the "One Trade Africa" (OTA) programme in Ghana. Key responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of OTA activities, ensuring alignment with national priorities and AfCFTA processes, and coordinating with the AfCFTA Secretariat and local partners. The role involves tracking intervention progress, providing logistical support for events, and actioning follow-up items from meetings. Additionally, the intern will support coordination with Ghanaian government agencies, business support organisations, and private sector actors, while helping to maintain strong stakeholder relationships. Research duties include conducting background analysis on AfCFTA topics and MSME development, supporting data collection, and monitoring implementation progress. Communication tasks involve capturing insights and success stories, supporting visibility efforts, and contributing to communication materials highlighting Ghana's AfCFTA role.
Work Experience
While not strictly required, consultancy or prior intern/junior officer experience would be advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media is expected, alongside good communication and analytical skills.
