The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the UN agency for human settlements, mandated to promote sustainable towns and cities for adequate shelter for all. The Events Unit, within the Global Knowledge and Advocacy Division, supports strategic alliances and hosts the World Urban Forum (WUF), a key platform for sustainable urban development and implementation of the New Urban Agenda.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to implement high-priority enhancements for the GEMS and MIND systems within three months. The focus is on improving registration data quality and privacy, strengthening role/permission and on-site security controls, developing a Bilateral Meeting Rooms module, and enhancing GEMS statistical reporting and MIND invitation management. These improvements will allow these critical functions to proceed in parallel with existing consultancy efforts, avoiding delays and ensuring efficient project progression. The role is home-based for an expected duration of three months.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Events Unit and technical coordination with the Senior Digital Innovation Lead and Infrastructure Engineer, the incumbent will develop and implement several key features. This includes building a chaperone consent workflow with digital signatures and amendment windows, creating a self-service data-deletion request system with retention prompts and an archive flow, and establishing robust on-site station security with unique logins and restricted access. Additionally, the role involves creating an AI-assisted photo quality check, building multi-language and accessibility support into registration forms, and developing various reports such as Age Demographics and Session Attendance.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in full-stack web development is required. Experience implementing form validation, role-based access control, and reporting/dashboard features in a production web application is desirable.
Skills
Technical proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and relational databases (e.g., MySQL/MSSQL). Working experience with Git version control. Experience with form validation, role-based access control, and reporting/dashboard features. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
