Organizational Context

The UN Secretariat, through the Resident Coordinator System, ensures coordination of UN development activities at the country level. The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the UN's highest-ranking representative, leading UN Country Teams and ensuring accountability for the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and the 2030 Agenda. The RC reports to the Secretary-General and the host government, focusing on sustainable development and poverty eradication.

Job Purpose

The Resident Coordinator (RC) serves as the highest-ranking UN representative at the country level, leading UN Country Teams and ensuring system-wide accountability for the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and the 2030 Agenda. The role involves coordinating UN development system entities, fostering partnerships with government, civil society, and the private sector, and advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The RC represents the UN at the highest levels, drives strategic communication, and ensures alignment of UN efforts with national priorities to advance sustainable development and peace, reporting to the Secretary-General and the host government.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include representing the UN at the highest levels, fostering engagement with diverse national and international stakeholders, and leading the UN Country Team in developing and implementing the UN Cooperation Framework. The role involves coordinating system-wide support, mitigating risks to SDG achievement, and advocating for UN values, human rights, and gender equality. The RC identifies and leverages UN system expertise, manages financing instruments, and promotes normative agendas. Additionally, responsibilities include fostering collaboration, facilitating access to resources, leading strategic communication, and potentially coordinating security and humanitarian responses. The RC also oversees the Resident Coordinator's Office and promotes efficient UN business operations.

Work Experience

Requires over 15 years of international leadership experience, including at least five years in development, human rights, rule of law, peace-building, or humanitarian work at the country level outside one's own country. Previous Resident Coordinator experience is mandatory. Senior-level inter-agency coordination experience may substitute for RC experience.
