The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (SRSG-CAAC) operates under mandates from the General Assembly and Security Council to protect children affected by armed conflict. Job Purpose
This internship within the Office of the SRSG-CAAC in New York provides an opportunity to contribute to the office's communications efforts. The intern will support initiatives aimed at building awareness and garnering support for the SRSG's advocacy work among Member States, donors, media, and the policy community. This role is crucial for amplifying the office's message and impact in protecting children affected by armed conflict, offering hands-on experience in public information and advocacy within a key UN body.
Responsibilities
The Public Information Intern will assist in developing and executing communication strategies to support the SRSG's advocacy. Key duties include media monitoring and analysis, drafting and editing content for various platforms (print, web, multimedia), and supporting the organization of events focused on Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) themes. The intern will also contribute to maintaining the office's website and social media presence, ensuring consistent and effective communication. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with publications and performing other assigned tasks to further the office's objectives.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship. However, candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the UN's work and a commitment to its ideals. The ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and a willingness to understand different perspectives are important.
