The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is implementing a programme to strengthen the migration-development nexus in Africa. This consultant role, based in Ghana, supports the ECA's North Africa Regional Office by providing technical assistance and capacity building to leverage diaspora contributions and remittances for sustainable development.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide continuous technical support and advisory services to Ghana and other African nations to effectively integrate diaspora contributions and remittances into national development planning. The role involves capacity building, developing tools and frameworks, monitoring program implementation, and documenting best practices. The ultimate goal is to maximize the socioeconomic benefits of migration and remittances for sustainable development across the continent, aligning with the ECA's "Strengthening the Migration–Development Nexus in Africa" programme.
Responsibilities
Provide continuous technical support and advisory services to Ghanaian institutions, including the NDPC, on leveraging diaspora contributions and remittances for sustainable development. Develop and adapt tools, frameworks, and guidance for integrating diaspora contributions into national development planning and channeling remittances to investment. Conduct periodic monitoring, evaluation, and follow-up reports on program implementation and reforms. Document Ghana's experiences and best practices for transfer to other countries. Facilitate capacity building for local assemblies on mainstreaming migration and diaspora contributions. Support the development of national strategies for remittances and diaspora investment. Monitor and evaluate the implementation of migration and diaspora contribution interventions.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience in economic/social research and analysis is required. Experience in policy planning, elaboration, and analysis of migration trends and their contribution to development is desirable. Experience with national planning organizations or UN system bodies related to migration is also desirable.
