Assistant Programme Officer
Organizational Context
This position is based in Brasilia, Brazil, within the UNODC Country Office (COBRA). The role reports to the Representative of COBRA and is supervised by a Team Leader in Vienna, Austria. The Assistant Programme Officer supports UNODC's global mandates and contributes to project implementation in Brazil.
Job Purpose
The Assistant Programme Officer supports the substantive and operational coordination of UNODC projects in Brazil, acting as a liaison with national authorities and partners. The role involves guiding project activities based on local context, contributing to capacity-building, technical assistance, and the development of project proposals. Key functions include assisting in the design and delivery of initiatives, organizing workshops, conducting assessments, and facilitating coordination meetings. The position also supports monitoring, reporting, and data analysis to ensure effective project implementation and alignment with UNODC's mandates, contributing to the prevention of crime and violence and the protection of vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Programme Officer assists in the implementation of project activities, including designing and delivering capacity-building initiatives for various stakeholders, conducting training needs assessments, and organizing workshops and expert meetings. The role involves supporting assessments, situational analyses, and risk mapping, as well as facilitating coordination meetings with national authorities and civil society. Additionally, the officer helps identify opportunities for regional cooperation and supports the preparation of technical documents, reports, and project proposals. Responsibilities also include collecting and analyzing data for monitoring and reporting, drafting communication materials, and ensuring coherence in technical cooperation activities. Administrative tasks within the ERP system are also part of the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in implementing and coordinating programs related to crime prevention, criminal justice, rule of law, human rights, or social protection is required with a first-level degree. This requirement is waived for candidates with an advanced degree. Experience in project development, implementation, monitoring, reporting, stakeholder coordination, and data analysis is desirable.
