Organizational Context
The Social Media Section, within the Department of Global Communications (DGC) Outreach Division, is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Department's multilingual social media strategy. This role is situated within this section, reporting to the Head of the Social Media Section, and contributes to the overall communications guidance and priorities.
Job Purpose
The Public Information Officer will ensure the daily implementation of social media activities to promote priority issues and major events. This includes managing and engaging with UN global social platforms in French, monitoring progress, and reporting on outcomes. The role involves overseeing daily messaging and outreach to enhance the visibility of the UN's work. A key aspect is analyzing social media impact and trends to inform agile responses and advise management. The incumbent will also contribute to developing and implementing social media strategies for campaigns, produce social media assets, and foster relationships with key constituencies and external partners.
Responsibilities
The Public Information Officer is responsible for implementing social media activities to promote key issues and events. This includes daily monitoring, community management, and engagement on UN global social platforms in French, with reporting and follow-up actions. The role oversees daily messaging and outreach to increase organizational visibility. Analysis of social media impact and trends is crucial for an agile approach and advising management. The officer will participate in developing and implementing social media strategies for campaigns, produce or oversee the production of social media assets, and build professional relationships with stakeholders and external partners. Additionally, the role involves acting as a focal point for social media issues, responding to inquiries, providing guidance to senior officials, and potentially supervising junior staff and interns.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in public information, journalism, international relations, or public administration is required. Essential experience includes managing professional social media for an organization internationally in French, implementing global social media campaigns in French, and producing French-language social media assets. Desirable experience includes analyzing social media insights and monitoring trends internationally.
