Organizational Context
The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) provides political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations globally. The Digital Transformation Team (DTT) within DPO drives the implementation of the Strategy for Digital Transformation of UN Peacekeeping (DTS), aiming to enhance mandate implementation and operational effectiveness through digital technology. This internship is based in New York.
Job Purpose
This internship offers an opportunity to support the Digital Transformation Team (DTT) in implementing the Strategy for Digital Transformation of UN Peacekeeping (DTS). The role involves programme management, coordination, and stakeholder engagement to advance the use of digital technology in peacekeeping operations. The intern will contribute to innovation initiatives, research emerging technologies, and support the improvement of the peacekeeping data ecosystem. This position aims to strengthen evidence-based decision-making and operational effectiveness within UN peacekeeping missions, providing valuable experience in digital transformation and data analysis within an international peace and security context.
Responsibilities
Support the implementation of the Strategy for Digital Transformation of UN Peacekeeping (DTS) through programme management, coordination, and stakeholder engagement. Assist in DTS governance mechanisms, including project reviews, progress monitoring, and documentation. Support innovation initiatives and projects using experimental and user-centered approaches. Engage with stakeholders to identify needs and support the design and implementation of technology-enabled solutions. Conduct research on digital transformation, innovation, AI, and data-driven approaches, synthesizing findings into actionable insights. Support the improvement of the peacekeeping data ecosystem, including data collection, management, analysis, and reporting. Assist data teams in strengthening evidence-based decision-making. Conduct exploratory data analyses and contribute to assessments of new technologies for operational effectiveness.
