Associate Programme Management Officer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), established in 1997 and part of the Department of Peace Operations, works to eliminate threats from mines and explosive remnants of war. UNMAS Ukraine supports national and UN efforts to mitigate the impacts of explosive ordnance contamination. This role is situated within the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Job Purpose
The Associate Programme Management Officer will support UNMAS Ukraine's efforts to reduce the humanitarian, recovery, and development impacts of explosive ordnance contamination. This involves providing specialized programme and project management expertise to aid in programme planning, implementation readiness, technical coordination, partner oversight, and operational analysis. The role contributes to UN legislative mandates and supports national mine action authorities and UN entities in Ukraine. The position is based in the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Kyiv and reports to the Senior Mine Action Advisor.
Responsibilities
The Associate Programme Management Officer will conduct research on mine action programs and operations in Ukraine, collecting and analyzing data. Responsibilities include providing support for policy coordination and evaluation, analyzing emerging trends in the mine action sector, and contributing to written outputs such as reports and publications. The role involves providing administrative and substantive support for meetings and conferences, including logistics and preparation. Additionally, the officer will undertake outreach activities, participate in training workshops, and make presentations. Field missions, budget coordination, grant monitoring, and maintaining relationships with national mine action authorities are also key duties. The officer will perform other required duties as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in project or programme management, or a related administrative field, is required. Additionally, at least one year of experience specifically within mine action or a related area is necessary.
