Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is dedicated to promoting socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities globally. This role supports the EU Operational Support to the IGAD Platform in South Sudan, focusing on strengthening capacities for displacement response and sustainable development. The position is based in Juba, South Sudan, under the Regional Office for Africa.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant will provide crucial administrative, operational, and programme support for UN-Habitat's activities in South Sudan, specifically for the EU Operational Support to the IGAD Platform. This role is vital for ensuring the efficient coordination and timely achievement of project outputs and objectives. The incumbent will contribute to UN-Habitat's mandate of promoting sustainable urban development and durable solutions for displacement-affected communities by supporting effective project planning, monitoring, financial management, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and partnership coordination, all in compliance with UN-Habitat and donor requirements. The position directly supports the implementation of the South Sudan component of a regional programme.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will support the implementation of the South Sudan component of the EU Operational Support to the IGAD Platform, ensuring alignment with regional objectives. Key duties include providing administrative and programme support, coordinating project schedules, meetings, and missions. The role involves managing financial and procurement processes, maintaining project documentation, and supporting reporting activities. Additionally, the assistant will facilitate stakeholder engagement and partnership coordination. Responsibilities extend to developing and maintaining project workplans, activity trackers, and monitoring tools. The position also supports the preparation of communication materials, presentations, and dissemination products to enhance programme visibility and knowledge management, contributing to the overall success of UN-Habitat's mandate in South Sudan.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in programme management, project coordination, partnership development, or humanitarian/development programming is required. Experience supporting proposal preparation, donor reporting, communication materials, or resource mobilization is desirable. Experience working with UN agencies, international organizations, NGOs, development partners, or government institutions is also desirable.
