Organizational Context

The Field Operations Finance Division (FOFD) within the UN Secretariat's Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance supports the Controller in managing financial resources for peace operations. FOFD is dedicated to enhancing effectiveness and efficiency in budget preparation and presentation, adapting to the dynamic environment of peace operations.

Job Purpose

This unpaid internship within the Field Operations Finance Division offers motivated individuals the opportunity to gain professional experience in financial management, procedures, and practices. The role contributes to the analysis of budgeting, accounting, and financial requirements for international organizations, supplementing academic studies. Interns will support the division's commitment to high standards in financial operations and adapt to the evolving demands of peace operations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include researching and compiling historical data related to mandates, expenditure patterns, and economic contexts for budget submissions. Interns will ensure resource requirements align with regulations and mandates, and participate in budget preparation, including consolidating and presenting financial information. Key duties involve monitoring UN budget implementation, identifying variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures, and generating financial reports using databases and spreadsheets.

Work Experience

Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, experience with Microsoft Excel and Word is mandatory. Experience in data analytics or a related area is considered desirable.

Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience in data analytics is desirable. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
