The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The Ecosystems Division, specifically the Economics of Nature Unit, works with partners to provide technical assistance and capacity development for environmental policy implementation. This role supports the TEEB initiative, focusing on integrating natural capital valuation into policies and programmes.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to mainstream the TEEBAgriFood approach within national and sub-national policy processes, particularly in India and Kenya. The consultant will provide strategic policy advice, identify institutional uptake opportunities, and translate project evidence into actionable recommendations for government planning, budgeting, and resource allocation. The role involves close collaboration with project teams, research partners, and policy experts to ensure the integration of TEEBAgriFood findings into government programmes and decision-making, contributing to food systems transformation and sustainable agriculture.
Responsibilities
Advance the mainstreaming of the TEEBAgriFood framework among policy- and decision-makers at national and sub-national levels. Provide periodic policy advice to the TEEBAgriFood team and research partners on emerging mainstreaming opportunities. Engage with state departments to promote the application of TEEBAgriFood evidence in public investment, budgeting, and resource-allocation decisions. Coordinate with policy experts to integrate TEEBAgriFood findings into policy processes. Facilitate stakeholder engagement for the introduction and uptake of the TEEBAgriFood approach. Contribute to knowledge dissemination, awareness-raising, and capacity-building activities. Review and provide inputs to policy briefs and knowledge products. Contribute to project monitoring, reporting, and documentation processes.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience working with different branches of the Government of India, including at a senior level, on issues pertaining to agriculture and the environment is required. Extensive experience of the policy landscape for sustainable agriculture and previous contact with key stakeholders at state and federal levels are also necessary.
