Organizational Context
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is a UN body established in 1949 to assist and protect approximately 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees across the Middle East. Its mission is to support their human development until a just solution is found. UNRWA operates extensive services in education, health, and social welfare, making it the largest UN operation in the region. This role reports to the Area Education Officer and supervises professional and general services staff.
Job Purpose
The School Principal is responsible for leading and managing the delivery of quality inclusive education services within an assigned school, adhering to UNRWA policies and practices. This involves fostering professional development for all staff by evaluating training needs, supporting school-based initiatives, and overseeing performance. The role also focuses on creating an inclusive, safe, and effective learning environment, engaging parents and the community, and managing school operations including registration, record-keeping, budgeting, and resource utilization. The principal ensures that assessment practices facilitate inclusive education and maximize student potential, while also performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Responsibilities
The School Principal is tasked with leading ongoing professional development for all staff, evaluating training needs, and supporting school-based development activities. They are responsible for managing the delivery of quality inclusive education services, ensuring adherence to UNRWA policies. The role involves developing communication strategies to engage parents and the community in educational monitoring. Additionally, the principal oversees installation management, including pupil registration, record-keeping, and EMIS data entry. They ensure appropriate school budgeting, financial management, and resource utilization. A key responsibility is developing and maintaining an inclusive, safe, and effective learning environment, and implementing monitoring and assessment practices to maximize student potential. The incumbent also performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of satisfactory teaching experience is required. Experience in West Bank or Jerusalem and holding a relevant ID is desirable. The role also requires indicating current involvement in outside activities, including but not limited to employment, consulting, board memberships, public speaking, teaching, training, and voluntary work.
