Job Purpose
The Medium Voltage (MV) Operation & Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the operational integrity and maintenance of UNMISS's MV distribution systems. This includes monitoring system performance, executing switching operations, and ensuring network stability. The role is vital for preventing power interruptions, implementing maintenance plans, troubleshooting faults, and adhering to stringent electrical safety standards. By ensuring the continuous and efficient functioning of MV networks, the engineer directly supports the mission's operational capabilities and contributes to improving network reliability and energy efficiency across all UNMISS sites.
Responsibilities
Operate and monitor Medium Voltage (MV) distribution systems, including feeders, substations, transformers, and switchgear, performing switching operations according to safety procedures. Monitor load profiles and voltage levels to ensure network stability and efficiency. Develop and execute preventive and corrective maintenance plans for all MV equipment and infrastructure. Identify and troubleshoot MV network faults, equipment failures, and abnormal operating conditions. Coordinate and participate in testing, servicing, and inspection of MV equipment. Lead fault investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with relevant teams for planned outages and system restorations. Participate in testing, commissioning, and energization of new MV installations and support network upgrades. Ensure strict adherence to electrical safety standards, including LOTO and permit-to-work protocols, promoting a strong safety culture. Prepare technical reports on maintenance, outages, and system performance, and maintain accurate operational logs and records. Manage MV component availability and predict future requirements for timely acquisition.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in medium voltage transmission systems is required. Experience with SCADA systems and protection relays is desirable.
