The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and advocating for sustainable development. This internship is based at UNEP's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) in Bangkok, Thailand, supporting the Finance and Economic Transformations team.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support UNEP's regional work in redirecting public finance towards climate, nature, and pollution actions. The intern will contribute to research on sustainable finance trends, assist in engaging Finance Ministries, and explore methodologies for assessing investment risks. Additionally, the role involves supporting UNEP FI by creating databases, analyzing policies and regulations on climate and nature risk, researching global nature taxonomies, and assisting in organizing webinars related to these topics. The position offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in sustainable finance within a key UN agency.
Responsibilities
Support UNEP's regional efforts to redirect public finance towards climate, nature, and pollution actions. This includes researching sustainable finance and investment trends in priority countries, and assisting in the engagement with Finance Ministries regarding climate change finance guides. Conduct research on tools and methodologies for assessing nature-related investment risks. Assist UNEP FI by developing a database of Central Bank contacts and analyzing relevant policies and regulations. Research and analyze global nature taxonomies and their regional adoption. Support the organization of webinars focused on the NZNP taxonomy.
Work Experience
Prior experience in climate change and financing is advantageous. Professional work experience is not required for UN internships, but a field of study closely related to sustainable finance is necessary. Familiarity with standard software applications like MS Word, PowerPoint, and Teams is desirable.
