Organizational Context
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is a UN body established in 1949 to assist and protect approximately 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees. With over 30,000 staff, it is the largest UN operation in the Middle East, providing essential services including education, health, and social services. This role reports to the Area Education Officer and supervises professional and general services staff.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for leading and managing the delivery of quality inclusive education services within an assigned school, ensuring alignment with UNRWA policies and practices. A key aspect is fostering professional development for all staff by evaluating training needs, supporting school-based initiatives, and overseeing performance. The position also focuses on developing effective communication with parents and the community to enhance educational provision and monitoring. Additionally, the role involves managing school operations, including pupil registration, record-keeping, EMIS data entry, budgeting, financial management, and resource utilization. The ultimate aim is to create and maintain an inclusive, safe, secure, and effective learning environment that maximizes the potential of all students through robust monitoring, evaluation, and assessment practices.
Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for leading ongoing professional development for all school staff, evaluating training needs, and supporting school-based professional development activities. This includes facilitating participation in external training and overseeing staff professional performance. The role involves managing the delivery of quality inclusive education services in accordance with UNRWA policies. Developing and maintaining effective communication with parents and the community to engage them in the provision and monitoring of education is crucial. The position also entails leading overall installation management, including pupil registration, record-keeping, and EMIS data entry, alongside ensuring appropriate school budgeting, financial management, and resource utilization. Furthermore, the incumbent is tasked with developing and maintaining an inclusive, safe, secure, and effective learning environment, and ensuring school practices support the monitoring, evaluation, and assessment of all pupils to maximize their potential.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively satisfactory teaching experience is required. Experience in various outside activities, including employment, teaching, training, and voluntary work, is noted. Residency in the West Bank or Jerusalem with a valid ID is desirable.
