Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the global environmental authority. Its Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) partners with over 500 financial institutions to advance sustainable finance and align with the Sustainable Development Goals. This internship is within UNEP FI's Climate team, focusing on the Climate Adaptation and Resilience (A&R) programme.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support UNEP FI's Climate Adaptation and Resilience (A&R) programme by assisting the Climate Change team with implementing A&R-related work. The role involves supporting the coordination and management of key programmes such as the Principles for Responsible Banking Climate Journey, Banking and Insurance Workshop series, Investors Resilience Challenge, and the Resilience Finance Mobilization pilot project. The intern will contribute to advancing financial institutions' understanding of climate impacts and the finance sector's role in building a climate-resilient world, engaging with various stakeholders and supporting the development of critical resources and capacity-building initiatives.
Responsibilities
Conduct research and analysis on climate adaptation and resilience finance, including physical climate risk, adaptation finance, and resilience measurement. Synthesize literature and financial sector practices to support programme development and assist with data collection and briefing materials. Support the coordination and implementation of UNEP FI adaptation programmes and working groups, engaging with member banks, insurers, investors, and other stakeholders. Organize webinars, workshops, and events, including speaker coordination and logistics. Draft and deliver monthly newsletters for the Adaptation Community of Practice and support stakeholder mapping and outreach activities. Assist in developing documents, case studies, and training materials, and contribute to capacity-building activities for financial institutions. Support resource mobilization efforts and undertake special projects aligned with programme priorities.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to climate adaptation, resilience finance, or sustainable finance is necessary. The internship is open to students in their final year of a degree program or recent graduates.
