Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the UN Secretariat's Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO), support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs. This role is within the UN RCO in Managua, Nicaragua, reporting to the Head of the RCO, and contributes to the UN 2.0 shift focused on data, digital, and innovation.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and data analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This involves analyzing trends, improving data processes, acquiring and cleaning data, and creating reports and dashboards for management. The role supports data-driven decision-making, contributes to data products, gathers business requirements, and assists in building data analytics capacity within the organization. The specialist also stays updated on data analytics best practices and technologies, and supports data preparation for model assessments and verification tasks.
Responsibilities
Implement databases, data collection systems, and analytics to enhance statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze and interpret trends using statistical methods. Acquire, clean, and maintain data from various sources, and improve data analytics processes. Develop reports, dashboards, and visualizations to support decision-making and communication. Track progress on data initiatives and contribute to data products like reports and newsletters. Gather business requirements to identify pain points and support data-driven analysis. Assist in building staff capacity on data analytics through training and workshops. Support data preparation, verification, and routine reporting tasks.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions is required. Experience in data quality assurance, data validation, data storytelling, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, R) is desirable. Knowledge of the data life cycle, including collection, wrangling, analysis, and reporting, is also desirable.
