Job Purpose
The Data Assistant will support the "Vida Nova no Morro" project in Niterói, Brazil, which focuses on sustainable urban development in informal settlements. This role is crucial for strengthening the municipality's data systems and institutional capacities to develop effective social housing policies. The Data Assistant will contribute to evidence-based planning, housing assessments, and community engagement, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. The position requires close collaboration with UN-Habitat's operational and technical teams to ensure the successful implementation of project activities and the achievement of its objectives in reducing socio-spatial inequalities and supporting sustainable urban development.
Responsibilities
The Data Assistant will support the implementation of the "Vida Nova no Morro" project by assisting in the elaboration and calculation of variables and indicators. Key duties include extracting, processing, and analyzing data from public databases and statistics, presenting findings in various formats, and providing technical support for data collection, production, analysis, and management. The role involves supporting the creation of georeferenced information, conducting studies on favelas, and revising documents related to spatial data. Additionally, the Data Assistant will help organize capacity-building activities, draft analyses of project results for policy planning, and document expert meetings and technical activities. The position also entails supporting programme management to ensure deadlines, quality, and budget compliance, and maintaining an organized information file.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management related to urban themes in Brazil is required. Professional and academic experience in data analysis, public policy information, data visualization, and data collection/processing is also necessary. Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search engines. Good command of GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS). Knowledge of programming languages such as R or Python. Experience with data visualization tools is desirable. Basic experience with GitHub or GitLab is desirable.
