Organizational Context

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. Its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This role supports the "Vida Nova no Morro" project in Niterói, focusing on strengthening municipal data systems for social housing policies.

Job Purpose

This Data Analyst role is crucial for the successful implementation of the "Vida Nova no Morro" project in Niterói, Brazil. The purpose is to support UN-Habitat's efforts in strengthening the municipality's data systems and institutional capacities to develop effective social housing policies for vulnerable populations. The role contributes to promoting sustainable, inclusive, and integrated urban development through evidence-based planning, housing assessments, and community engagement, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. The Data Analyst will be instrumental in transforming cities into safer, more inclusive, and resilient places by providing essential data analysis and information products.

Responsibilities

The Data Analyst will support project implementation by developing, calculating, and validating data variables and indicators. Key duties include extracting, processing, and analyzing data from public databases and statistics, presenting findings in various formats, and elaborating georeferenced information. The role involves processing spatial analysis, generating thematic maps, and managing the ingestion of geospatial data, ensuring data quality. Responsibilities also extend to supporting studies on informal settlements, revising spatial data documents, and organizing capacity-building activities. The analyst will provide technical support for data management, contribute to knowledge sharing, identify project risks, and maintain an organized information file. Administrative tasks to ensure project deadlines, budget, and quality are also required.

Work Experience

A minimum of four years of progressive experience in project/programme management related to urban themes in Brazil is required. Professional and academic experience in data analysis, reporting for public policy, data visualization, and data collection/processing is also necessary. Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.

Skills

Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search engines. Expertise in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software (QGIS or ArcGIS). Competence in programming languages such as R or Python. Experience with data visualization tools is desirable. Knowledge of project management methodologies is desirable. Basic experience with GitHub or GitLab is desirable.
