Organizational Context
The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) provides global leadership, operational support, and oversight for the UN security management system. It enables the safe and effective delivery of UN programs in challenging environments. This Field Security Associate role is based in Hpa-an, Myanmar, assisting the Chief Security Adviser in implementing security operations and managing safety for UN personnel within the Area of Responsibility.
Job Purpose
The Field Security Associate supports the Chief Security Adviser in managing safety and security for UN personnel in the Area of Responsibility (AoR). This involves collecting and communicating security information, liaising with host government security, assessing security situations, and advising UN agencies. The role contributes to the safe and effective delivery of UN programs by ensuring a secure environment for staff and operations, aligning with UNDSS's mission to provide trusted security leadership and solutions.
Responsibilities
The Field Security Associate assists the Chief Security Adviser by collecting and disseminating security information, liaising with host government security, and assessing the local security situation. Responsibilities include maintaining the UN Security Plan, monitoring security measure implementation, and reporting security incidents. The role also involves organizing security awareness training, conducting security briefings, and providing advice on residential security measures. Additionally, the Associate manages a pass and ID system, liaises with commercial security providers, and offers general administrative support, including maintaining contact databases and preparing meeting minutes.
Work Experience
Seven years of work experience in security, risk management, disaster, or emergency areas is required. This experience can be in public or private service, such as national security, military, police, or a corporate environment. The minimum experience is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is mandatory. Experience with the UN system or international NGOs, and with radio communications systems, is desirable.
