Job Purpose
This role is to advance UN-Habitat’s agenda on SDG Localization and multilevel governance. The Coordinator will steer a high-impact workstream, delivering senior-level results in coordination, advocacy, strategic engagement, narrative development, knowledge creation, and communications. The position is critical for ensuring that UN-Habitat effectively supports local and regional governments in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, translating global commitments into tangible local actions and addressing the growing challenges of urbanization and sustainable development.
Responsibilities
The Coordinator will lead the SDG Cities and Multilevel Governance Team’s advocacy, knowledge management, policy, and communications workstream. Key duties include providing technical guidance and quality assurance to team members, coordinating planning and delivery with UN-Habitat teams and offices, and aligning efforts with the Local2030 Coalition. Responsibilities also involve designing and executing advocacy strategies to strengthen UN-Habitat's role in SDG Localization, leading networking and technical exchanges for initiatives like SDG Cities, and representing the team in intergovernmental processes. Furthermore, the role entails overseeing the development of policy papers, knowledge products, and communications strategies, ensuring a coherent narrative and effective dissemination of information.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in sustainable development, urban development, governance, public policy, or international development is required. This includes proven expertise in team coordination, leading advocacy and policy initiatives, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, knowledge management, and program coordination. Experience supporting intergovernmental processes and policy dialogues is also necessary.
