Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Resident Coordinator System (RCS) supports countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs, operating under an empowered UN Resident Coordinator. This role is within the UNRC Office for Samoa, a multi-country office covering Samoa, Cook Islands, Niue, and Tokelau. The office is part of the UN 2.0 shift, emphasizing data, digital, and innovation.
Job Purpose
The Data Analyst is responsible for developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and analytics strategies to optimize statistical efficiency and quality within the UNRC Office for Samoa. This role involves identifying and analyzing trends, developing reports and dashboards, and creating data visualizations to support decision-making and communication. The incumbent will also document methodologies, collaborate with internal and external partners, and build data analytics capacity among staff. The position contributes to the UN's reform efforts by enhancing data-driven approaches to achieve the 2030 Agenda and SDGs.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, and analytics strategies to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze trends and patterns using statistical methods, identifying relevant features from various data sources. Develop and implement analysis, reporting, and quality control capabilities, identifying opportunities for process improvement. Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations to effectively communicate findings to management. Document methodologies and establish data practices for staff. Lead the production of data products and draft inputs for various reports and documents. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including data engineers and scientists, to enhance data flows and quality. Stay updated on data analytics best practices and technologies, and conduct training to build staff capacity in data analytics.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in data manipulation and analysis, including statistical methods, is required. Demonstrated skills in data storytelling and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, R) are essential. Experience in data quality assurance and validation is required. Experience translating business requirements into technical solutions is desirable.
