This consultancy is located within UNEP's Law Division, Africa Office, focusing on Ghana's HPMP Stage II activities.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to ensure the effective and timely implementation of Ghana's Hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) Phase-out Management Plan (HPMP) Stage II, Second Tranche. The role involves coordinating and delivering training workshops, distributing equipment and toolkits, and executing awareness campaigns. The ultimate goal is to enhance refrigerant containment practices, build technical capacity in the RAC servicing sector, and strengthen national efforts to reduce HCFC consumption, contributing to Ghana's environmental sustainability goals under the Montreal Protocol.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include developing and executing a detailed work plan in coordination with national stakeholders. This involves strengthening institutional capacity through leadership seminars and distributing promotional materials. The role requires training RAC servicing technicians at centers of excellence on equipment use and environmentally friendly technologies, including low-GWP alternatives. Additionally, it involves conducting awareness workshops for professionals and the public on energy-efficient RAC equipment and organizing training on fire suppression systems. The consultant will also prepare periodic progress reports and a comprehensive final report detailing achievements, lessons learned, and recommendations for future interventions.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in engineering, environmental science, or refrigeration technology is required. This includes technical expertise in the RAC sector, practical knowledge of servicing practices, refrigerant containment, and safe handling of refrigerants. Experience with Montreal Protocol activities and stakeholder consultations is highly desirable.
