ACS intern on Data Analysis

Organizational Context

The African Centre for Statistics (ACS), within the UN Secretariat's Economic Commission for Africa, aims to enhance data statistics and geospatial information across Africa. It supports evidence-based planning and policymaking for development agendas. The Centre comprises three sections: Data Capability and Geospatial Knowledge; Statistical Production, Methods and Research; and Coordination, Partnership and Policy Outreach.

Job Purpose

This internship role, based in Addis Ababa, supports the Office of the Director at the African Centre for Statistics. The intern will contribute to critical data analysis and management tasks, assisting in the compilation, harmonization, and analysis of economic data. The purpose is to provide research assistance for policy-oriented work, support the development of data tools and dashboards, and aid in documentation and reporting. The role aims to strengthen the implementation of ongoing analytical and statistical work, ensuring organized datasets and timely analytical outputs to support Africa's development agendas and evidence-based decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

The intern will profile use cases for emerging data sources and assess their suitability for addressing data gaps. Responsibilities include assisting in the compilation of metadata from national and international statistical websites and supporting the comparability of African development indicators across various databases. The role involves contributing to the creation of statistical tools to automate analytical processes and providing insights on modern data visualization techniques. Additionally, the intern will prepare statistical summaries, including methodologies and key findings, and support capacity-building and training activities. The position also entails assisting with dashboard and data tool support, documentation, and reporting.

Work Experience
