The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs, operating under the UN Secretariat's reform. This role is within the UN RCO in Amman, Jordan, reporting to the Head of the RCO. The office focuses on data, digital innovation, and a mission-driven culture to accelerate the 2030 Agenda.
Job Purpose
The Associate Communications Officer is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies for the UN Country Team in Jordan. This involves creating unified messaging, leading media engagement, and ensuring effective advocacy to reach target audiences. The role supports the Resident Coordinator's external partnerships by managing visibility and media coverage. It also coordinates interagency communication initiatives, campaigns, and events to strengthen the "One UN" voice and maintain the UN Jordan website and social media presence, ensuring public access to information and facilitating stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement communication strategies to raise awareness, drive engagement, and build support for UN initiatives. Monitor traditional, social, and digital media to gather insights and identify reputational risks. Draft compelling narratives and messaging for various UN activities, optimizing content for diverse platforms. Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, and develop media lines, including for crisis situations. Plan and coordinate press conferences, briefings, and media events. Produce communications products like press releases, web stories, and infographics. Develop and execute communication campaigns and strategic partnerships. Create content for radio and podcasts. Assist in reporting on communications activities and contribute to policy/guidance development. Stay updated on communication trends and technologies. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. Monitor, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies and activities.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in communications or international relations is required. Demonstrated knowledge of strategic communications principles and practices is necessary. Experience with data visualization tools, data analysis, and digital media platforms is desirable, as is experience in data analytics or related areas.
