Consultant - Ground Transportation Expert
Organizational Context
The Department of Operational Support (DOS), through the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM), is implementing the Global Fleet Optimization Initiative. This role supports the UN80 reform agenda by enhancing the efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of Light Passenger Vehicle (LPV) fleet management across UN field missions.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide specialized technical expertise to support the Global Fleet Optimization Initiative. The role will focus on reviewing LPV holdings, optimizing utilization, strengthening vehicle pooling, managing disposal and replacement programs, and enhancing fleet governance. The objective is to ensure LPV fleets efficiently support UN field mission operational requirements while improving resource stewardship and reducing costs through data-driven management and evidence-based recommendations.
Responsibilities
The consultant will review field missions' LPV holdings for alignment with fleet ceilings and operational needs, assess utilization, and identify optimization opportunities. Responsibilities include reviewing acquisition and replacement requests to determine if pooling or redeployment can meet requirements before procurement. The role involves monitoring disposal programs, assessing fleet data accuracy, ensuring compliance with optimization targets, and identifying redeployment opportunities. Additionally, the consultant will review and support the expansion of vehicle pooling, monitor the Transportation Management Tool (TMT), develop performance indicators and reports, and prepare technical assessments and recommendations. Collaboration with stakeholders to facilitate initiative implementation and validate recommendations is also key.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in fleet management, transportation management, or logistics operations is required. Experience coordinating with diverse stakeholders and reporting to senior management is essential. Two years of experience in UN field operations or a comparable international environment is highly desirable. Experience with data analysis, performance reporting, ERP systems, and fleet management applications is also desirable.
