Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), part of the UN Secretariat, seeks a consultant for typesetting and graphic design. This role supports the Global Programme on Cybercrime (GPC) by enhancing the clarity and visual consistency of a key publication, ensuring it meets UNODC's visual identity standards.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to provide professional typesetting and graphic design services for the "Repository of Best Practices." This involves ensuring the publication is accessible to a diverse audience of criminal justice practitioners globally, communicating complex legal content clearly and visually consistently. The role is crucial for rendering the document's structure with precision and adhering to UNODC's visual identity standards for both print-ready and web-optimised formats. The consultant will deliver a fully typeset and designed repository, including source files and a reusable layout template for future publications, ensuring a high-quality, professional output.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for the full typesetting and graphic design of the "Repository of Best Practices," approximately 80 pages. This includes delivering the final publication in print-ready PDF (CMYK) and web-optimised PDF (RGB) formats. The consultant must also provide all source/working files, such as InDesign packages or equivalent open formats. Additionally, they will deliver final corrected PDF files incorporating feedback from the supervising team and create a reusable layout template package (e.g., InDesign/Illustrator) derived from the repository's design for future UNODC publications.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in typesetting, graphic design, and layout for publications is required. Demonstrated experience producing both print-ready and web-optimised publications is essential. Experience designing legal, policy, or technical publications for international organizations or UN agencies is desirable.
Skills
Typesetting, graphic design, layout for publications, print-ready and web-optimised PDF creation, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop (or equivalent software), portfolio submission, English fluency (oral and written).
