Project Implementation and Coordination Support Consultant
Organizational Context
UN-Habitat, the UN agency for sustainable urbanization, operates within the Global Solutions Division. The Local2030 Coalition Secretariat, co-chaired by UN-Habitat and FAO, accelerates the localization of the 2030 Agenda by enhancing UN system coherence and impact. It bridges the UN with local development stakeholders, focusing on co-creating solutions and reducing inequality. This role supports a GIZ-funded project aimed at empowering municipalities to localize the SDGs.
Job Purpose
This consultancy supports the "Enhancing the role of municipalities to accelerate SDG Localization" project within the UN-Habitat Local2030 Coalition Secretariat. The primary purpose is to ensure effective project implementation, coordination, and timely delivery of outputs. The role contributes to strengthening the availability and dissemination of knowledge products that aid municipalities in advancing SDG localization. It facilitates meaningful engagement with local and regional actors, documents project results, and enhances coordination among stakeholders. Ultimately, the consultancy aims to increase the visibility of local contributions to SDG localization, improve access to evidence-based solutions, and bolster the capacity to inform policy processes at all levels, fostering systemic transformation for sustainable development.
Responsibilities
The consultant will manage the development of project knowledge and policy products, including coordinating the preparation of Terms of Reference, supporting procurement, and managing drafting processes. This involves compiling technical inputs, monitoring progress, and reviewing draft versions to ensure alignment with project objectives. The role also includes coordinating the editing, design, publication, and dissemination of these products. Additionally, the consultant will support engagement processes by organizing local, regional, and global consultations and high-level events. This includes logistical coordination, participant engagement, and preparing event materials. Documentation of engagement activities, collection of local solutions, and monitoring of local contributions are key. The consultant will also manage project documentation and online platforms, and support the dissemination of communication materials highlighting project achievements.
Work Experience
At least two years of experience is required in supporting project implementation, including progress monitoring, activity coordination, and managing online resources. Experience in organizing global events with multi-stakeholder participation and in advocacy, including developing key messages and promoting outputs online, is also required. Desirable experience includes administrative and operational support, such as preparing Terms of Reference, maintaining documentation, and contributing to internal operational processes.
